Judah and Tamar Trailer

Book One in the Judah and Tamar trilogy

I am very excited to have created my first ever book trailer for the Judah and Tamar story that Michael Silversher and I have written.

It’s amazing what one can do when one is inspired and compelled by an ancient story, as both of us were when we read the Biblical account of the Judah and Tamar story in Genesis 38.

Joy Sikorski Author

I know. There’s a comma missing in the title of this article. I did that on purpose. You’ll find out why if you keep reading.

Meanwhile, everyone thinks of me as a voice liberator, performer, composer and maybe a cancer thriver (what in the world is that, you ask? Well, I’m writing a book about my cancer experience. But for now, read on.

Yes, I am all of the above and more, but because I am also so very excited about my new book—Song of the Terebinths Trilogy, Book One: Betrayal—co-written with Michael Silversher and coming out in October that I just had to write a post about what it is like to be an author in the hopes that you get something from my thoughts on this subject. Grateful Music in the Moment

We survived the Mountain Fire with Gratitude

Last night at a wonderful birthday gathering in the Idyllwild area at the home of Barbara Reyliss, members of our community shared gratitude for what the firefighters and others did to “Hold the Line” on the horrendous Mountain Fire that threatened to destroy our beloved Idyllwild.

We shared poems, stories, a scene from Shakespeare, music and other artistic expressions. A young teen sang for us using only a plastic cup as her accompaniment. Barbara shared a touching song she wrote about the memory of her Grandmother’s hands; and others shared funny stories, card tricks, chants and prayers.

I was asked to share something, so I created a bit of my “Music in the Moment” Usually, when I do something like this, it is not recorded so that when people ask me if I have any video examples of what I do, I cannot give them anything.

This time I decided to get a recording of it. [Read more…]

Mountain Fire Song

“Hold the Line,” by Joy Sikorski

Joy Sikorski Mountain Fire song image for Hold the LineI live in Idyllwild, California, where the Mountain Fire has been roaring for a week now. During Day 3 of the fire, a mandatory evacuation order took me out of my  community. I got out around 10pm with only what my car would hold. Little did I know that the fire had crossed the road where I drove out.  It was one of the most sobering experiences I have had in a long time. Surreal, actually.

Against difficult odds, hot weather and difficult to access rugged mountain terrain, the firefighters and support team have done an amazing job of holding the lines to keep our community safe.

We cannot go home yet, and even though I had no studio, keyboard or external microphone with which to create this piece, today I wrote this Mountain Fire Song, entitled “Hold the Line,” to express my gratitude to those who are holding the Mountain Fire lines for us and to encourage all who call Idyllwild home to continue to pray and send their most positive thoughts and energy to ensure the safety of our brave Mountain Fire firefighters and for the fire break lines to hold.

And even if you do not call Idyllwild home, this song speaks to anything that threatens your peace, your joy or your love of life.

Please share this song with anyone you think will be encouraged by it.

If you cannot play it on your mobile device, my apologies. I have not yet been able to find a reliable audio player for responsive websites. I’ll keep working on that problem and if you have a solution for me, please let me know in the Comments area or on my Facebook page.  Thanks!

Joy Sikorski Unplugged

I promised on Facebook that I would reveal myself and now I have begun.

There is just so much a person can do before she has to find a way to consolidate her gabzillion projects.

This site continues to work that consolidation into something sensible; and I plan to make it nothing but fun with my Joy Sikorski books, my Joy Sikorski music, my Joy Sikorski wellness and everything else I do.

My passion is to connect people with ineffable and intangible awe through my original music, writings (books/articles/poem) and personalized training. This gives people a sense of personal purpose and ease which then opens their body-mind-spirits to the possibility of living their own passion.

Ineffable intangible awe communicated through all that I do helps you to release your purpose. Together we heal the world.

A bit of me from my treasure trove of sayings:

  • If it ain’t fun I’m outta here!
  • Keep your pretty chin up
  • I live in reality…the unseen kind that Einstein talked about
  • Do you like to laugh at yourself? Good, we are now friends!
  • Cancer once bit me in the breast, but that never stopped me
  • Once upon a time I was called a “child prodigy”
  • Once upon a time that made life a hard act to follow, but no longer
  • Your authentic voice is the one I’m interested in
  • I write books and music most of the time
  • And I train people…to free their voices and live a life of wellness
  • The rest of the time I paint, hike, cook, stay away from cancer, love my kids and most everyone else
  • I will probably end up loving you if you laugh with me enough
